  This ministry was constituted to oversee and to grant approval for the execution of projects for local government councils and monitoring of these projects which have direct impact on the lives of the people. The ministry has the power to resolve crisis between traditional rulers and also to settle communal crisis in the state.

Accordingly, the law made by State House of Assembly stipulated that excess Crude fun allocated to local government councils by this Ministry should be used for capital project that have positive impact on the lives of its people by making sure that the people have values for their money and also to ensure that the money allocated to council by government is properly utilized.

Since the inauguration of this administration of Adams Oshiomhole, the ministry has achieved so much in the monitoring of government projects, presenting staff of office to newly appointed Traditional Rulers and settlement of communal crises in the state

Having given the Local Government up to three tranches for projects execution, as at May, 2010, it was reasoned that it was proper for inspection of these projects to confirm the level of performance of projects. 

In this vain, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Victor Enoghama personally took an inspection tour of all the 18 Local Government areas to asses these projects executed with excess Crude fund which approval was given by the Ministry. 

The inspection tour took the commissioner round these council areas where he inspected various projects such as renovation and completion of schools, grading and asphalting of road, building and renovation of Primary Health Care Centers, electricity projects reconstruction and completion of Bore­Hole among others.

This Ministry is working with the committee on market to see how ultra modern market can be built in order to accommodate more traders in the market.

The inactive of this Ministry, the State is partnering with first Bank plc to renovate the Edo State Secretariat Building in Sapele Road and the renovation of market across the state.

The Ministry has also help liquidate some Local Government debts by helping those that were owing salaries arrears to pay up.

In Councils where the projects were done accordingly to specification, the Commissioner commends the Councils Chairmen and urged the Chairmen of the councils where projects are on-going to expedite action in making sure that the on-going projects are completed before the expiration of their tenure because the government of Adams Oshiomhole will not condone abandonment of projects.

The Ministry has recorded so much success in the settlement of dispute among traditional rulers in the State. The Ministry has also presented staff of office to newly appointed traditional rulers in the State among whom where 

His Royal Highness Chief Braimah Amadu Igbenebor as the Udale of Errah in Owan East Local Government Area.

His Royal Highness Samuel Ojeaga Ighodolo as the Onojie of Ujiogba in Esan West Local Government Area.

His Royal Highness Oni Lampese of Lampese in Akoko-edo Local Government Area 

His Royal Highness J.O.S. Etu, the Ogienvianwu of Avianwu, in Etsako Central Local Government Area. 

 On the resolution of communal crises in the State the Ministry in May, 2009, in collaboration with Akoko-Edo Local Government Council settled the long running boundary dispute between Akuku and Enwan in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs will continue to can j out it statutory functions in ensuring there is always peace and tranquility in the state.
